Children with disabilities in China are at risk of being separated from their families.
Social stigma, financial pressures, and lack of support for families causes many parents of children with special needs to feel isolated and hopeless.
Family Strengthening is the KEY
Families who join our Family Strengthening Program receive holistic support services that help them maneuver through the significant challenges they face:
Home Visits
Each family is visited by our care specialists on a regular basis. Families are able to share their current struggles and victories with our staff, and then receive individualized feedback and support that is tailored to their needs.
These visits prevent families from feeling isolated or hopeless, and provide real human support that helps them to stay strong in the face of adversity.
Parent Training
Parents and caregivers receive both individualized training and group training opportunities. Individualized training helps parents understand their unique child’s needs, through assessments and learning how to support their child’s therapy progress at home.
Hope Station also provides workshops throughout the year on different topics, taught by our staff and other experts in related fields.
Therapy
Families have the option to receive therapy for their child directly from our staff therapists, or financial assistance in sending their child to a local therapy center.
Based on the child’s needs, they can choose from physical, speech, occupational, or behavioral therapy options.
Our staff support the families through their child’s therapy with assessments and guidance as well.
Emotional + Community Support
Families raising a child with special needs can feel very isolated and misunderstood by their surrounding community.
Through mental health counseling, one on one support from our staff team, and community events with other families in our program, families have the opportunity to get the emotional support that they need to stay strong and keep up the hard work of raising their children.
